A special court has awarded one year sentence and a fine of Rupees 1.75 lakhs to the former Women and Child Welfare Officer, Sumitra Dongre for accumulating wealth disproportionate to her known sources of income.

Official sources said a tip-off Special Police Establishment had registered a case against the officer on April 1, 1995. Property worth of lakhs of ruoees was seized in a raid at her private houses in Indore and Ujjain. A challan was presented in the special court against her on August 24, 2004.

Dongare will have to undergo six months more imprisonment in case she failed to deposit the fine.
