arjunsinghThe former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh had released and sent Anderson to the US on his own discretion. He said that there was no pressure on him to do so from the Government of India. This was done on the understanding that Anderson would appear before the court whenever called. N K Singh, resident editor of The Hindustan Times, who was then with the Indian Express confirmed Arjun's statement. "I remember he said that it was his own decision to release and send Anderson away", he said.   Arjun Singh said that Anderson's presence in Bhopal would have arouse3d passions and it would not have been safe to keep him here. However, Anderson has been eluding the court ever since. The fact that a handsome amount had been transferred into the account of a trust run by Arjun Singh has cleverly been negated by him.
While the Indian Court and the ministers are being so passive and irresponsible regarding the justice, or rather injustice done to the thousands affected by the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, people all over the world are concerned and are reacting in favour of the victims, demanding trial and punishment for Anderson. New Jersey Congressman Frank Pallone said early this morning,
"All those responsible for this disaster, including the former chairman of Union Carbide Warren Anderson, should stand trial in India and receive punishment that reflects the devastation and pain they have caused for thousands of people."
"Warren Anderson absolutely deserves to be extradited from the US and punished for the full extent of his crimes. As chairman of Union Carbide at the time of the Bhopal gas disaster, Anderson was ultimately responsible for his company's actions," said Pallone, who is a powerful member of the India Caucus in the Congress.
