| International media shocked over Bhopal verdict |
|
Pointing fingers at the controversial Civil Nuclear Liability Bill, international media commented that the legislation continued to set a low bar on liability in order to attract foreign companies and governments, overlooking its moral responsibilities towards the safety and well being of the common man. The American Multinational Company Dow Chemicals was also condemned for refusing to clean up the site of the accidents even after 25 years of the tragedy, while the US Administration was allegedly blamed as irresponsible for blocking India's request for extradition of the former Union Carbide Chairman Warren Anderson. 'The New York Times' said that the Indian courts are notoriously slow and claimed that the Bhopal verdict indicated that the wealthy can outwit Indian judiciary. |
