About this place
The Great Stupa at Sanchi is India s oldest stone structure and one of the most important Buddhist monuments in the world. Commissioned by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BC, the site contains stupas, monasteries and elaborately carved torans (gateways). Sanchi is 46 km from Bhopal.
